WORLD REFUGEE DAY 2010-
World Refugee Day 2010

This year’s World Refugee Day on June 20 has as its theme, “Home,” in recognition of the plight of more than 40 million uprooted people around the world. Around 10 million of them are refugees of special concern to UNHCR.

At UNHCR we help people find new homes and new futures through resettlement, through voluntary repatriation and through local integration. Most of the time, and where it’s possible, refugees prefer to return to their home countries. Nonetheless, and with conflict continuing or escalating in many countries, finding new homes and allowing people to restart their lives is increasingly difficult.

This year, for World Refugee Day, we are planning events around the world to highlight the plight of refugees under our care and to advocate on their behalf for the help they need. We will be asking you to think about what it means to be one of those millions of individual human beings. And we will ask you to contribute in whatever way you can to helping them rebuild their lives.

Help us help them to find a place to call home.

  1. Jose Rebelo Says:

    Dear friends,
Greetings from Manila! I am Jose Rebelo, the editor of World Mission magazine. We would be interested in using the photo of Angelina Jolie (angelina_UNHCR090, used for World Refugee Day 2010 and taken during a visit to Afghan refugees) in our magazine as an illustration of love and care for the refugees. We would like to ask if you could give us permission and send us the same photo in high resolution. If you do not have it could tell us to whom shall we request the photo? WE would need it urgently as we prepare to go for printing. Thanks a lot for your collaboration!
    Yours sincerely,
    Jose Rebelo

  2. Jess DeCristo Says:

Hi there, my name is Jess Decristo, I would like to give you a little background on me, so you can understand why I almost worship this beautifull couple of Angie & Brad. I’m an ex-marine, ex-green beret, in ‘93 I retired from 23 years in the motion picture stunt business, I’m also a borned again christian. Now, I started out admiring Angie’s incredible beauty, then her spellbinding acting captivated me, then , WOW ! I found out she did most of her own stunts ! Just when I didn’t think possible that I could admire and respect this beautifull lady anymore, I found out the incredibly mercifull work that she, together with her dynamite partner do for the United Nation’s refugee program. I also know that Brad own mercifull work, before Angie. I ain’t lying to you, when I read that she learned how to fly just to take medicines, food and clothing to the poorest of the poor in pleaces like Iran, Iraq, Afghanistan, Bosnia, Syria, Haiti, Costa Rica, Jordan , Africa, India to name a few, Both of them were permanently engraved in my heart and mind with admiration and respect. So when I hear idiotic, stupid, ignorant and arrogant people like Madonna, Rose Annbar critisize not only they’re mercifullness but the real reason they have so many children, It drives me up the wall with anger. At the beginning i stated that I almost worship them, that’s because I only worship Jesus Christ, but they are rigth after my mother, father , wife and kids, in a very 3 way tide with Elvis and the Beatles. I wish them the best forever and I bless them, I even have a petition to have them nominated for The Nobel Peace Award, ( hell, they gaved it to Obama ! ), Thank you and God bless, Jess DeCristo
