Angelina Jolie Call to President Obama:save Darfur

world-refugee-day-angelina-jolie-03

In observance of Human Rights Day, Angelina Jolie has taken to Newsweek to let the the Obama administration know that it’s not doing enough for the Darfur region of Sudan, where “government supported militia have left 300,000 dead and 2.7 million people internally displaced.”

In hopes of bringing down corrupt Sudanese leaders, the 34-year-old UNHCR Goodwill Ambassador writes, “I believe President Obama and his special envoy Scott Gration will do their best to bring peace to the region. Their policy, though, raises a number of questions. How is the Obama administration’s approach to Sudan an evolution of justice? In addition, when the administration says it intends to work to ‘improve the lives of the people of Darfur,’ I would like to know what that means, besides the obvious point that their lives could hardly get worse.”

Jolie Recounts Teenage Sex Slave’s Harrowing Story

Angelina Jolie has joined Ben Affleck and Demi Moore in an effort to highlight the plight of desperate women in Third World countries by narrating a video about a teenage Cambodian sex slave.

The Oscar winner and United Nations Goodwill Ambassador agreed to front the hard-hitting film after being moved by Pulitzer Prize-winning journalist Nicholas Kristof’s stories about the death, mutilation and despicable discrimination against young women and teenagers in the world’s poorest places.

In the video, shot by Kristof and aired on Oprah Winfrey’s talk show on Tuesday, Jolie, whose adopted son Maddox is Cambodian, reveals the girl was kidnapped from her village when she was just 13, sold to sex slavery and forced into prostitution before she had experienced her first period.

The tragic teen in the video also revealed she was electrocuted twice a day for arguing too much, and tied up at night so she couldn’t escape.

Through a translator, she revealed her virginity was sold four times before she managed to escape and she was “stitched up three times”.

Jolie revealed, “Virgins bring in hundreds of dollars for brothel owners are are in high demand by men with Aids, who believe having sex with a virgin will cure their disease.

“Because these enslaved girls are forbidden to request condoms, they’re vulnerable to STDs (sexually-transmitted diseases), Aids and pregnancies.”

The girl fell pregnant twice and was forced to abort both children – the second when she was four months gone.

Jolie picked up the story: “(She) was in so much pain after her second abortion she asked for a few days rest.” But the madam at the brothel showed no mercy, and instead stabbed her in the eye with a metal rod.

Jolie added, “As her wound became more infected, her eye began oozing blood and puss. Now, considered mutilated and worthless by the brothel, her captors mercilessly discarded her on the streets.”

Kristof, who was appearing on Oprah to promote his new book Half The Sky – which recounts the terrible truth about the world’s most desperate teenage girls and women – revealed the girl found help, but hers is one happy ending in a global sex trafficking and slavery industry that he estimates has ensnared three to tens of millions of young girls.

Kristof returned to the site of one of the brothels that housed the Cambodian teen and her fellow sex slaves with one reluctant former child prostitute, who showed him the basement which acted as a torture chamber for the most unruly girls.

From a translated script, Jolie explained what the girl was telling the journalist: “There must be many girls who died in those rooms. I spent two years in a place like this.” »

Angelina and Brad save for lot of people. However, they are remarkably damaged. There is only one truth. The truth is necessary only for them, and doesn’t belong to others.
The people in whom only the moneymaking is interested will never see the one at which they are looking.

Angelina Jolie and Brad Pitt Design Jewelry for Asprey

WWD MARKETS report :

LONDON — There’s a new designer duo in the jewelry world: none other than Brangelina.

Brad Pitt and Angelina Jolie are breaking into high-end jewelry design with Asprey via a capsule collection of gold jewelry and silver accessories called The Protector — and inspired by the snake.

The limited edition collection, which was conceived and designed by Pitt and Jolie, has been in the works for more than a year, and will go on sale at Asprey stores in London, New York, Beverly Hills, Tokyo and Dubai later this week, according to Asprey officials.

Prices start at $525 for a silver baby spoon with a curving, serpent-shaped handle, and all net proceeds from sales will go to Education Partnership for Children of Conflict, which was cofounded by Jolie in 2006. The charity raises awareness and funds to educate child victims of war, conflict and natural disasters.

Jolie and Pitt declined to talk about their collection for Asprey, opting instead to discuss the aims of the charity in an e-mailed quote attributed to Jolie: “These are the children who most need a safe place to learn, a place to heal, a place to learn reconciliation, a place to build a better future and a place — to just be children. Yet the education for these children is often forgotten. Tens of millions of children and adolescents in conflict are not in school.”

An Asprey spokeswoman declined to comment on the collection beyond confirming the facts, and would not say whether celebrity collaborations would be a future strategy for the brand.

The jewelry-loving Jolie has worn Asprey — and other names including Lorraine Schwartz and Mikimoto — on the red carpet. Pitt, who has a passion for architecture and design, in the past has created pieces for the Italian jeweler Damiani. Both Jolie and Pitt have also commissioned pieces privately from Asprey.

So why the serpent theme? When she was pregnant with their daughter Shiloh, Jolie was given a ring — not from Asprey — in the shape of a snake. Since then she’s considered the reptile a talisman and protector of her family.
