Hollywood actress Angelina Jolie has reportedly been urged by Hindus to help the Roma people in Europe. The 34-year-old actress, who is Goodwill Ambassador for the UN and is known for her charity work, would be “very effective” in helping to raise awareness of the Roma apartheid, according to statesman Rajan Zed.
Zed, who is the president of the Universal Society of Hinduism, said in a statement in Nevada that he believes the actress could highlight the issue as other high-profile figures have done for South Africa’s apartheid.
Zed added that Jolie had helped promote many humanitarian causes across the world and Roma would be the next cause for her to help with. He also offered his services to the actress if she needs it for the Roma cause.
The condition of the Roma people has been an issue in Europe as the people have faced social exclusion, racism, substandard education, hostility, joblessness and rampant illness among other issues, according to Zed. http://www.nationalledger.com
In Washington D.C. UNHCR Goodwill ambassador Angelina Jolie speaks out about how refugees have impacted her own life.
A ‘lost’ film in which Angelina Jolie made her screen debut at the age of five is to be released on DVD for the first time. The screen beauty played the daughter of her real-life estranged father, Jon Voight, in flick, Lookin’ To Get Out.
The Las Vegas-set comedy, directed by Hal Ashby, was shot in 1980 on a budget of $17 million, but did not get a theatrical release until two years later. It was a huge critical and box-office failure – selling less than a million dollars worth of tickets. And it has never been available on video until Tuesday’s DVD release of the newly edited version.
Jolie’s scene with Voight lasts just over a minute. He explains to the blonde child that he’s wearing bandages because he crossed against traffic and that he comes from New York. The girl replies that the man she believes is her father – Ann-Margret’s male companion in the movie, played by Richard Bradford – “visits New York” a lot.
“I was a co-writer and co-producer, so I had a lot to say about the casting,” said Voight, 70. He told the newspaper: “Angie was terrific, very well-prepared. I wasn’t looking for any signs whether she’d be an actress.” Tomb Raider actress Jolie, 34, has been estranged from her father for several years after he accused her of having “serious mental problems” on a US TV show. Russian newsite RIA Novosti had a chance to talk to that country’s biggest filmmaker Timur Bekmabetov recently, and he told them that he has started preparations on making the sequel to the 2008 summer hit Wanted and that they’ve found a way to bring Angelina Jolie’s character back.
Talking about the tentatively-titled Wanted 2, Bekmambetov told them, “In July we will start preparation for the film. I think in the late autumn or winter shooting will be performed. The shooting will take place in America, India and Russia.”
Besides Jolie’s character, Fox, Bekmambetov hopes to bring back the character played by Kostya Khabenskiy, who also starred in Bekmambetov’s breakout films Night Watch and Day Watch, as well as introducing new characters. The sequel reportedly has a $150 million budget, which is the biggest Hollywood production made by a Russian filmmaker, and Bekmambetov will once again have Russian crew involved in all aspects of production.
While already enjoying plush homes on both coasts, Brad Pitt and Angelina Jolie are now mulling the delights of a home in Manhattan.
As New Yorkers will know, the Apthorp, the 100-year old landmark on the Upper West Side is being converted to condos, and Brad and Angelina have their names on the list.
When work has placed them in New York before, the couple have rented. But with Angelina, 34, now in town to shoot, ‘Salt,’ and paying a cool $100,000 a month for the eleven-bedroom, 5-acre splendor of the ‘Rosehearty’ estate, owned by the Murdochs [which can be yours when she’s done for just $12.9-million] the glories of Apthorp are said to be winning her heart.
“The gated courtyard means they can get in and out of their car without being hassled by paparazzi,” a source tells the News. “There are also several other exits.” they confirmed.
With a reported budget of $25-million, the pair’s plan, so it seems, is to buy three of the lavish new apartments – which boast up to 13 rooms and 11ft ceilings – and make them all one. And at just $1,500 a square-foot, they could score some great room.
But it’s not a done-deal just yet – the Realtors must sell at least 25 of the 32 units in the 1908-vintage building before those chosen as buyers can actually close. With acres of period detail, superb local schools and a fellow-guest list starring Sarah Jessica Parker, Alec Baldwin and the Knicks’ David Lee, the lure must be hard for the pair to resist. We’ll let you know what they do from here on.
