Angelina Jolie Quashes Rumors of a Secret Wedding and Admits to Fears About Writing and Directing Her First Feature Film : Vanity Fair

Despite recent reports, Angelina Jolie assures Vanity Fair contributing editor Rich Cohen that there is “no secret wedding” in the works for her and Pitt. “I’m not pregnant. I’m not adopting at the moment,” the star tells Cohen.

“Brad thinks I’m going to be a nightmare,” Jolie jokes, telling how directing her new movie, In the Land of Blood and Honey, has changed the way she will approach her acting career. “I had such a good experience he thinks I’m going to be impatient with directors, which I already am. I get impatient with people working on a film that have their head in their hands like it’s the most complicated thing in the world.”

“I’ve never felt more exposed. My whole career, I’ve hidden behind other people’s words,” Jolie tells Cohen of her screenwriting and feature directorial debut. “Now it’s me talking. You feel ridiculous when you get something wrong.”

“I had the flu,” Jolie says of how she came to write the script. “I had to be quarantined from the children for two days. I was in the attic of a house in France. I was isolated, pacing. I don’t watch TV and I wasn’t reading anything. So I started writing. I went from the beginning to the end. I didn’t know any other way.” She says she then let Brad take the script to read on a trip: “He called and said, ‘You know, honey, it’s not that bad.’”

Jolie admits she did not initially intend to direct the film. “It was something I didn’t trust out of my hands,” she explains. “So by default I ended up putting myself in as director.” Of her decision to use all unknown actors from the region, she says, “It couldn’t be anybody else. It’s their story. It was important that they were willing to do it. If none of them were willing, I wouldn’t have made it.”

Jolie does elaborate on Brad’s supportive role throughout the project. “He’d come in and say what he liked or what he didn’t understand. Like any woman, I would listen to most of it and fight a few things. He’s been so supportive. But it’s hard to separate the person that loves you from the critic, so I don’t think he’s a fair judge.” But she goes on to say that “people will judge for themselves. I think if you make a good movie people walk away arguing.”

Before shooting, Jolie says, she sent the script to “reporters and writers, people of Serbian and Bosnian nationality who’d been through the war. I was gauging the accuracy…. If they said no, I wouldn’t have done it.”

Angelina Jolie has met with Croatian President Ivo Josipovic to discuss the country’s attempts to remove dangerous landmines.

The UN Goodwill Ambassador arrived in Croatia over the weekend to urge President Josipovic to take decisive action to dispose of landmines still remaining from the country’s civil war in the 1990s.

Jolie and two of her children also attended a performance of Shakespeare’s King Lear while visiting Croatia, according to newspaper Jutarnji List.

The star had been invited to the region by the Croatian actor Rade Serbedzija, who played Gregorovitch in the Harry Potter and the Deathly Hallows films.

A source close to Jolie recently suggested that she and partner Brad Pitt have settled down now that their children have grown older.

Jolie’s directorial debut In the Land of Blood and Honey, which was partially filmed in Bosnia, opens on December 23 in US cinemas.

Tearful Angelina Jolie gets Sarajevo film festival award : VIDEO

Angelina Jolie and Brad Pitt in Sarajevo film festival

(Reuters) – Hollywood actress Angelina Jolie was close to tears as she received a special award during an unannounced visit to Sarajevo’s film festival Saturday with partner Brad Pitt.

“I will start crying if you don’t stop,” Oscar-awarded Jolie told the audience who gave her a standing ovation at the city’s National Theater.

Jolie chose Bosnia’s 1992-95 war as the setting for her first film as a director. “In the Land of Blood and Honey” is due to be released in December.

She has also visited Bosnia as a goodwill ambassador for the U.N.’s refugee agency UNHCR and funded the construction of several houses for returnees in eastern Bosnia.

Festival director Mirsad Purivatra presented Jolie with a heart-shaped award when she appeared at the closing ceremony.

“Tonight we are giving the honorary Heart of Sarajevo to a great artist, not only for the great impact she has in the world of cinema but also for persisting and her active engagement in the complexities of the real world we live in,” Purivatra said.

Jolie, dressed in a long peach dress, stood on stage with eyes full of tears waiting for the clapping to die down.

“I told Brad in the car I was afraid I was going to cry,” she said, her voice breaking.

Jolie’s film tells the story of a love affair between a Bosniak (Bosnian Muslim) woman and a Serb, who were on opposite warring sides during the conflict.

She planned to shoot parts of the film in Sarajevo and engaged a local crew. But she had to move to Budapest after some female victims of sexual violence objected to details in the plot and Bosnian authorities canceled a filming permit.

“I am so honored to be here at this festival,” Jolie said after receiving the award. “There is no greater example of the strengths of the artists and the festival that began during the war and grew stronger every year.”

The Sarajevo film festival was launched toward the end of the Bosnian capital’s 43-month siege by Bosnian Serb forces.

Jolie presented Austrian actor Thomas Schubert with the award for the best actor for his role in the film “Atmen,” directed by Karl Markovics.

Atmen, about a young offender searching for his mother, was also named best film in the festival.

Romanian actress Ada Condeascu won the prize for best actress for her role in the film “Loverboy.

Angelina Jolie and Brad Pitt: Smooching on the Set in Budapest: VIDEO

After wrapping the production of “The Tourist”, Angelina Jolie is ready to jump on another project. During her surprise visit to Sarajevo over the weekend to meet with members of Bosnia’s interethnic presidency to discuss ways to help thousands of returning war refugees, the actress has confirmed that she is working on a Bosnian War love story which will start shooting in this fall.

“Upon leaving Bosnia and Herzegovina on Saturday, Angelina Jolie stated that she will be in the region working on a film this fall,” said the UNHCR, the United Nations refugee agency, for whom Jolie works as a goodwill ambassador. The statement issued on Saturday, August 21 also mentioned, “The film is a love story set during the Bosnian war of 1992-1995, focusing on a couple who meet on the eve of the war and the effect the war has on their relationship.”

She has additionally announced that the movie’s cast will consist of actors from the various ethnicities of the former Yugoslavia. “I would like to involve as many local people as possible and learn as much as I can,” the living partner of Brad Pitt stated as quoted by Reuters.

On her role, national radio claimed Jolie will star in as well as serve as director for the film. However, an article on Allvoices mentioned that the 35-year-old actress will only serve behind the cameras for this untitled Angelina Jolie project.

Angelina Jolie has just graced theaters around the world through her performance in action thriller “Salt”. Her next starring vehicle “The Tourist” which will see her sharing screen with Johnny Depp is planned to be released on December 10 this year.

Angelina Jolie Gets Defensive Over Her Bosnian Movie Following Protest

Angelina Jolie has defended her controversial movie project after she was banned from filming in Bosnia – urging critics to “hold judgment until they have seen” the picture. The Oscar-winning actress has stepped behind the camera for the first time to make her directorial debut with the currently-untitled film, which is set in the Eastern European state.

However, confusion over the plot has led to the Bosnian government revoking the actress’ production permit. Campaign groups in the country expressed their anger over rumors the film will tell the story of a Bosnian woman who falls in love in with her Serbian rapist in the middle of the Bosnian war.

The producers behind this Untitled Angelina Jolie Project have insisted the reports are wrong and have handed over a copy of the script in a bid to have their permit reinstated. The actress has now spoken out about the furore, refusing to reveal details of the plot but insisting the “sensitive” storyline will be handled appropriately.

She says, “(They should) hold judgment until they have seen the film. Obviously any dramatic interpretation will always fail those who have had a real experience. This is not a documentary. There are many twists in the plot that address the sensitive nature of the relationship between the main characters and that will be revealed once the film is released.”

Angelina Jolie Considering ‘Unforgiven’ Role Based On British Miniseries

Angelina Jolie

Angelina Jolie’s schedule is rapidly filling up. Earlier this week, it was revealed that she’ll be writing and directing her first feature, a love story set during the Bosnian War, which she’ll also produce with Graham King. Now, she may have a new starring role coming up as well, for a movie that King will also produce.

The producer’s GK Films is developing a feature adaptation of the 2009 U.K. miniseries “Unforgiven” for Jolie to star in, Deadline reports. A director hasn’t been set yet, but “The Usual Suspects” writer Christopher McQuarrie is taking care of the script.

“Unforgiven,” not to be confused with the Oscar-winning 1992 Western starring Clint Eastwood, follows a woman who is newly released from jail after serving a 15-year sentence for the murder of two police officers. The killing happened when attempts were made to evict her and her family from their home. Now free, all the ex-con wants is to live in peace, a desire not easily fulfilled thanks to a revenge plot staged by one of her victims’ two sons.

The original U.K. version aired as a three-part miniseries early last year. Suranne Jones starred as Ruth Slater, the role that Jolie is up for. Jones has done a fair bit of U.K. television, and is probably best known for her role as Karen McDonald on the soap opera “Coronation Street.”

Jolie is having a strong year at the movies. Earlier this summer, she starred in the box-office hit “Salt,” a Russian-spy thriller that has so far grossed more than $200 million worldwide. In December she stars opposite Johnny Depp in “The Tourist,” a King-produced thriller directed by Florian Henckel von Donnersmarck that was recently moved up from its previously planned 2011 release.

Angelina Jolie to film love story set in Bosnia war

Angelina Jolie ' SALT ' Premiere in Berlin

Reuters – Hollywood star Angelina Jolie said after a visit to Sarajevo on Saturday she would soon start work on a love story set during the 1992-95 Bosnian War.

Jolie said in a statement issued by the United Nations High Commissioner for Refugees (UNHCR), for whom she is a Goodwill Ambassador, that shooting for the movie would begin in autumn on the tale of a couple who meet on the eve of the war and the effect it has on their relationship.

“The film is a love story, not a political statement,” the statement said.

Jolie arrived on Friday for a surprise visit to Sarajevo and on Saturday met members of Bosnia’s inter-ethnic presidency to discuss ways to help thousands of returning war refugees.

Jolie visited returnees in eastern Bosnia in April with her partner Brad Pitt and promised then to come back.

She also said the movie’s cast would be comprised of actors from the various ethnicities of the former Yugoslavia.

“I would like to involve as many local people as possible and learn as much as I can”, Jolie said.
